Foxton is a small town (pop. 2715 approx) on SH 1 in New Zealand’s North Island that boasts a unusual and quite beautiful feature … a genuine working windmill.
De Molen (as it is known) was completed in 2003 and grinds flower that sold in the shop attached to the structure. You can also watch the inner workings of the mill which are said to be examples of 17th century Dutch craftmanship.
I thoroughly enjoyed spending time roaming the grounds in the sunshine with my camera.
If you happen to be passing don’t forget to take a left off the main highway and experience something a little different!
