Update 2 – Sarah’s Book Project: A Story With A LGBTQI Connection

Welcome to what is the second update to my book project – to read a story with an LGBTQI connection. Now it may surprise you to know that I consider this to have been successfully completed albeit not in the way I envisioned it. What do I mean by that? Well I have finished a book that met the criteria BUT it wasn’t the one that I originally chose.

You will remember from the first update that I was waiting on a physical copy of my pick (A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue) to arrive and in the meantime I had several other options to choose from. Well I decided to pick up one of those and as it turns out I am mighty glad I did because it has turned out to be the best book I have read this year so far! That book was:

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson.

What a book! I won’t go into too much about it because I have written a full review that will follow in a short while except to say that it is a wonderfully deep and emotional story about growing up a Black queer man in America and the journey towards understanding identity.

Now this book has so affected and impressed me that I want to give it time to percolate around in my brain so I have decided to put aside my first pick for this project till another time when I feel in the right frame of mind for it. I know they are two very different types of LGBTQI books but I really want to give All Boys Aren’t Blue the time I feel it deserves. There is so much to think about that I am actually considering getting the audio book and listening to it. The author narrates it himself and I think that will lend it even more emotional weight so I am really looking forward to that.

So mission accomplished beyond my wildest expectations. While it may not have been the original story I chose, I think I have ended up having the better reading experience for it.

Now I have to think of my next project. I have a vague idea but I have to do a bit of research to see if there are any good candidates. Mysterious decisions ….

Until next time when my new project is announced … take care and lots of love xxxx
